Holy Masses
On this page you can request that Holy Masses be celebrated according to your intentions, both for the living and the deceased.
The Code of Canon Law (cann. 945-958) regulates the issue of the offering for Holy Mass. From time immemorial, God's people have asked priests to celebrate the Eucharistic sacrifice according to their particular intentions or for the suffrage of the deceased. The faithful who give the offering so that the Holy Mass may be celebrated according to their intention, contribute to the good of the Church, and through this offering participate in its solicitude for the sustenance of its ministers and works. From the offering of Masses even the appearance of bargaining or commerce must be absolutely kept away.
To provide a rough indication of the amount of the offering each church region suggests an indicative amount. In Lombardy an amount of € 10 per Mass is suggested.
For Gregorian Masses, which are a cycle of 30 Masses celebrated consecutively in suffrage of a deceased person, the suggested amount is €350. The origin of Gregorian Masses goes back to the account of Pope St. Gregory the Great, who had Masses celebrated for 30 consecutive days in suffrage of a monk who had died long before. St. Gregory tells how at the end of the celebration of the Masses he had seen the monk's soul enter heaven. The Masses need not be celebrated by the same priest, but they must be consecutive.
